When I saw this set in the latest sets wave, I knew I had to build it. Maybe because it looks sleek and reminds me of the Republic gunship (a chibi version of course)? Maybe because the side build is a speeder bike that looks better than a battle pack's one? I don't know. Did I mentioned that I like the republic gunship and the speeder bikes? Let's confront my expectations to reality.
Background
Ambush on Ferrix is the first set coming from the live action series Andor. It has been revealed in the Celebration Anaheim (2022). The presentation of this set revealed the name of the planet Ferrix and the characters of Luthen Rael and Syril Karn to the Star Wars fans.
This set is intended to depict an action scene in the three episodes pilot of the series, so the main build is one of the three mobile tac-pod involved in the event and the speeder is the vehicle used by the « good guys » to escape (no spoiler here: no escape, no story).
Let's be clear, there's a lot of differences between the toy internal build and the « real » Mobile Tac-pod, in term of size and accessibility, but compromise had to be made for the sake of playability. And I think it's not a problem if the model is used in a diorama or is displayed on shelves (except if you want to use the rear door, which is the only door in the series). This said, let's review the toy side of this set.

The box measures 25,9 cm x 28,1 cm x 9,5cm and weighs approximately 792g. Inside are 6 bags numbered from 1 to 6, a sticker sheet and an instruction manual.
The instructions
The instruction manual measures 196mm x 175mm, has 138 pages and approximately 251 total build steps, including 25 pages for the speeder bike.

The parts
The set contains 679 parts and 24 spares, in 29 colors, and 33 part categories, with a total of 227 unique parts/color combinations. Main colors are:
The parts of bag #1 are used to build the speeder bike side build. It was a nice thing to begin with, since I like designing this kind of vehicle. The first part of the build is the speeder chassis which is not really big enough for two minifigs. I think it is a good thing because minifig size speeder bike are quite difficult to build (even more for an official set)
The chassis isn't as big as it seems for an official set.
Then we build and add the front winglets
This is quite big compared to the rest of the build...
...and I'll keep this feeling until the end of the building process.
The final build is not very detailed compared to the 75299's one for exemple. But if you keep in mind that's a side build, it's a decent speeder. I like the whip usage, but I'm not very enthousiatic about the underside thruster's size.
Bag #2 :
Here we begin to build the main vehicle's skeleton, mainly the chassis:
The funky colors won't last long...
...they disappear before the end of this bag.
Bag #3 :
With the third bag, we finish the skeleton of the Tac-pod with the cockpit and the roof.
The seats aren't very big. Is it be possible to use them all?

Since then, we're going to add sub-assemblies to this skeleton.
Bag #4 :
Next, we begin to cover the structure with four sub assemblies pined to the beams and one cliped to the racheted hinges: the rear door. This bag realy shows the compomises that have been made since the rear door is unusable as such, and can be used as a weapon storage only despite it's the only acces to the spaceship available in the show. The side doors, on the other hand, do not exist in the show but are realy usefull for playing with minifigs, and as far as I know, targeted kids do not care about that. The set is labeled 9+ but anyway, I won't let my kids watch the series even if the were nine.

Bag #5 :
Bag #5 includes all the parts needed to cover the front and the top of the mobile tac-pod.

Once in place, it's locked by a control panel added to the black hinge.
The front side panels are locked the same way than the rear ones.
The core of the vehicle is nearly done.
I was intrigued by the two orange 24947 part. And well, the way they're used is quite clever.

The cockpit's canopy can be opened too.
There is so few gaps between the cover panels in this model.
Let's take a look at the underside view:
Clearly, it's not the most appealing point of view, and no parts are added here later. It would have been nice to add some plates here and there; and some parts of the BOM could have been used, at least to make the center hole and the bright light orange plate on the front disappear.
Bag #6 :
Character :
Syril Karn, aka the wannabe who should have listen to his boss
We're almost done, we just need to build the engines/wings and the rotating turret. I really like the way the wings can rotate. If you don't know that they can do it you can't see it at the first glance.
The engines and the rotating wings share the same axle.
We're nearly done. The turntable may be replaced by a 4x4 plate if you don't want a turret.
The parts of the engines join realy nicely.
The turret is more generic, the 69754 launchers are easily removable or modifiable, but if you don't load them with neon round tiles, you can simply pretend they're exhausts or something like that.
Conclusion
I wondered earlier if it's possible to make a minifig sit on each seat at the same time. Well, let's see :
As you can see it's possible if you move the minifig's arms and if you move the back of the two passengers facing the front of the vehicle. A usual manipulation with LEGO vehicles. You can see on the front view that the side doors are perfectly closed with 4 passengers.
During the build I didn't use the stickers, and except for the cockpit ones it's not a problem.
Finally, the speeder bike measures approximately 21 studs x 5 studs x 4.33 bricks and the Mobile Tac-pod measures 29 studs x 27 studs x 11 bricks (with the wings in flying position). At the time I wrote this review, the price of the set was $69.99, €79.99 and £69.99 giving a price per part ratio of 10.3 cts, 11.8 cts and 10.3 pence which is quite good for a SW set.
So, what can I say: the models are nice. The set has good play value since they're two vehicles. they are sturdy, even the speeder bike (for what it is). I realy enjoyed the building process, far more intersting than the 75325's one. This set gave me a very positive general impression and I had a good time building it.
Some downsides: as I said, from the point of view of an AFOL, I think the bottom of the Tac-pod would have deserve more attention. As a parent and as a former kid, I think the spacecraft's base is a little too big for a kid's hand to swoosh it all around the place, moreover the set should have had an other corpo generic soldier. I mean, they're 14 vs 2 in the story, and there are four seats for passengers, it's sad not to have a minifig to sit on the seats in the box.
All in all it's a fun set to build and a good toy. If you're interested in purchasing it, do not hesitate.
Great review! After building it myself I completely changed opinion and agree - It’s one of the best sets of the year. Just wait for some 30% discount (like for each and every Lego set). The ship is brilliantly designed with very interesting building techniques. It offers a surprising amount of playable space inside and interesting details. Also the Speeder is one of the best to find in the franchise. The only negative aspect you might encounter (besides the price) are the mini figures. Obviously they are the main characters from the series, but design wise, they are not the top notch.
The two spare pins may not mean you missed one in the build. I have an X-Wing that came with two spare pins instead of one. Could just be a manufacturing mistake.
This is the first Star Wars sets I have been interested in in a long time. I like the shape, and the build of the armor plates is pretty cool. It reminds me of an AT-ST for the sky. Thanks for the review.
Not too sure about the no spoiler bit. We all know the heroes will escape/save the day (because the continuation of the series depends on it!) but now I know part of how it happens ;-) Great review though!
Lovely set, It took me 2:30u to build it. At first I was sceptic at the Price, but I understand now why its so pricey. Its a real sturdy and heavy ship. it has alot of moving parts and can fit 5 minifigs.
Glad there is plenty of internal area, wonder if the Tac-pod needs to be a bit larger relative to the speeder but kids probably won't notice.Although not correct, I would have added a few wheels to the base so that kids can push along the carpet to save holding all the time.

It seems I forgot a pin somewhere...
There is one sub-bag in each bag.
The chassis isn't as big as it seems for an official set.
This is quite big compared to the rest of the build...
...and I'll keep this feeling until the end of the building process.
The funky colors won't last long...
...they disappear before the end of this bag.
This is the bottom of the cockpit.
The seats aren't very big. Is it be possible to use them all?
The top part of the vehicle is pinned to the build.

Once in place, it's locked by a control panel added to the black hinge.
The front side panels are locked the same way than the rear ones.
The core of the vehicle is nearly done.

The cockpit's canopy can be opened too.
There is so few gaps between the cover panels in this model.
The engines and the rotating wings share the same axle.
We're nearly done. The turntable may be replaced by a 4x4 plate if you don't want a turret.
The parts of the engines join realy nicely.

Great review though!
At first I was sceptic at the Price, but I understand now why its so pricey.
Its a real sturdy and heavy ship. it has alot of moving parts and can fit 5 minifigs.
